KAVAN lithium phosphate batteries (LiFe) are an ideal source of power for compatible modelling transmitters and receivers. They are characterised by a high energy density, offering a high capacity with a relatively low weight and small dimensions. Thanks to the advanced technology used in the production of electrodes, they enable fast charging - with a long service life and a favourable price.
BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF KAVAN LIFE CELLS:
The nominal voltage of LiFe cells is 3.2 V. During operation, the cell voltage must never exceed 3.6 V when charging and must not fall below 2.5 V when discharging. Exceeding/falling below these values can lead to irreversible damage to the battery. For this reason, special chargers for LiFe batteries must be used for charging. Failure to charge the battery correctly and short-circuiting the cell will result in the cell overheating and being damaged by the gases produced. In extreme cases, a chemical reaction can start with the risk of a cell explosion. Although LiFe batteries are absolutely safe when handled properly, you should not underestimate this danger.
CHARGING KAVAN LIFE BATTERIES
Always use a special charger for LiFe batteries for charging. It must be equipped with an automatic system that ensures that the maximum permissible voltage of 3.6 V (+ 1%) per cell is not exceeded. Do not charge KAVAN LiFe batteries with a current above 1C*, for normal operation we recommend the use of currents in the range 0.5-1C. We recommend using a balancer every time you charge.
We also recommend checking the voltage of individual cells in the set before you start charging. If the cell voltage is below 2.8V, it means that you are overloading and over-discharging them during operation.
Unlike NiCd and NiMH cells, LiFe batteries do not need to be moulded first. However, if you want to charge the sets with a current of 1C, we recommend not exceeding a current of 0.5C in the first three charging cycles. LiFe batteries do not need to be discharged before charging. For example, you can charge 50% discharged batteries.
OPERATION OF LIFE BATTERIES
Only use devices that are suitable for charging LiFe batteries. Avoid heavy loads on the batteries if they have a residual charge of less than approx. 20-25% of the nominal capacity (less than 3.0 V per cell). LiFe cells of any brand are sensitive to overcharging in this range, which will shorten their service life.
STORAGE
The batteries are stored in a partially charged state, the voltage at the individual cells should be in the range of 3.30 to 3.35 V. Check the batteries at least every 3 months during longer storage periods and charge them to the storage voltage.
KAVAN LIFE-SETS
Charging cables (power cables) are equipped with standard JR / UNI servo plugs. All sets are equipped with a standard JST-XH system balancing plug.
